MFD Responds to Jumper on Wards Bridge

at 0711 hours on July 23rd, MFD was dispatched for all available manpower to respond to quarters and await an assignment. MFD firefighters soon learned an EDP (emotionally disturbed person) had scaled Wards Bridge and was threatening to jump into the Wallkill River. State, DEC, County, Town and Village PD were already on scene trying to negotiate with the man to talk him down. MFD members responded to the scene with Rescue 222 and the water rescue trailer. Firefighters donned their water rescue suits and prepared rescue equipment in case the man jumped and a rescue was necessary. Thankfully, the man was talked down by PD and was taken to a local hospital. View the Times Herald Record story on this here:
