Rescue and Tanker to Walden for 4 Alarm Structure Fire

At 0107 on Thursday, May 23rd MFD was dispatched under mutual aid to the Walden Fire District for one rescue to the scene of a 3 alarm fire located in a strip mall on Old Route 208. As Rescue 222 got on the road, Walden command requested their 1 alarm tanker task force to establish a water supply at the scene. This request brought Montgomery Engine 223 to the scene as well. Crews arrived on scene to find heavy fire through the roof of a 30X500 strip mall with fire showing from 1st floor store fronts and 2nd floor apartments. Soon after arrival of Montgomery, Walden command began requesting units from their 4th alarm assignment. Montgomery crews assisted Walden by stretching 2 1/2 attack lines to knock the fire down, searching the building, overhauling, venting, and checking for extension. Thanks in part to an aggressive interior attack by the Walden Fire Department and mutual aid companies, much of the building was spared and a good stop was made on the fire. While operating at the 4 alarm fire, MFD also took in an automatic fire alarm at Staples warehouse, which was handled by Engine 219.
